Keeping Fit in Indonesia

I’ve spent the past two years living in one city in South Korea. This has made it easy to have a good exercise regime. I can go to the gym, exercise classes and I’m familiar with the area so I know the good running routes. At the end of February next year I’ll be moving onto Indonesia. While this is very exciting and I’m looking forward to the challenge of a new country, it does mean I must create new exercise habits that will fit into the new destination and lifestyle.

It's time to move on

In the absence of a gym membership and ballet classes to join this is how I intend to keep up my fitness when I’m in Indonesia.

  • Running – I’m looking forward to exploring running routes. I’m not sure exactly where we will be living but if there’s a beach or park it will be perfect to start with. I will then explore other good running routes in the area and use Run My Route to calculate the distance.
  • Yoga – This will be the perfect opportunity to start doing yoga regularly.
  • Ballet stretches – Even though I won’t be going to ballet classes, I want to keep up with practicing the ballet stretches and simple moves I’ve learnt.
  • Walking – I think the best way to explore a new city is by walking around. I can’t wait to discover what will be our new home for six months.

This is my exercise plan for the time I will spend in Indonesia. However, I’m going to stay open minded about the exercises I do. I’m willing to try new things that come along.
